No. 35Tequila & Mezcal
Pickle Margarita
Tequila, pickles, lime, happiness.
A Pickle Margarita is a classic tequila margarita with dill pickle brine shaken in. Blanco tequila, fresh lime, orange liqueur and brine are shaken and served over ice with a half dill-salt rim. It tastes bright and tart up front, then finishes savory and clean like a cold pickle spear.

Amounts for 1, in ounces.
- 1 lime wedge (for the rim)
- 1 tbsp dill salt (kosher salt mixed with dried dill, for the rim)
- 2 oz blanco tequila
- ¾ oz fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- ¾ oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or triple sec)

- 1 dill pickle chip (for garnish)

- rocks glass
- Rim
- dill salt
- Garnish
- lime wheel and pickle chip
How to make it
- Run the lime wedge around half the rim of a rocks glass and dip it in dill salt.
- Fill the glass with fresh ice.
- Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, brine and agave (if using) to a shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 10 to 12 seconds.
- Strain into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and a pickle chip.
Bar tips
- Salt only half the rim: the brine already brings salt, so each sip can be as salty as you like.
- Brines vary a lot from jar to jar in salt and vinegar, so add 0.5 oz first, taste, then pour in the rest.
Make it your own
- Use reposado tequila for a rounder, slightly oaky margarita.
- Skip the orange liqueur and use 0.5 oz agave syrup for a Tommy's-style pickle marg.
Drink responsibly. This one is for adults of legal drinking age. Want it without the booze? The zero-proof drinks are just as briny.
