Classic Pickle Beer
Cold lager, a splash of the jar. Always a good dill.
A Classic Pickle Beer is an ice-cold light lager with 1.5 oz of dill pickle brine poured in. The brine adds salt, tang and a hint of garlic, so the beer drinks crisper and more savory. It is the simplest drink on the menu and the starting point for every other pickle beer.

- pickle spear
How to make it
- Chill a pint glass in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Pour the pickle brine into the glass.
- Tilt the glass and slowly pour in the lager.
- Straighten the glass for the last few ounces to build a one-finger head.
- Garnish with a pickle spear.
Bar tips
- Pour the brine in first so the beer mixes itself; stirring knocks out the bubbles.
- New to pickle beer? Start with 1 oz of brine and work up.
- Brine from refrigerated dills in the cold case usually tastes fresher and more garlicky than brine from shelf-stable jars.
Make it your own
- Use a Mexican lager or a pilsner for a little more malt.
- For a near-zero version, use a nonalcoholic lager (most are under 0.5% ABV).
Drink responsibly. This one is for adults of legal drinking age. Want it without the booze? The zero-proof drinks are just as briny.
