Classic Pickletini

The martini, but make it pickle.

A Classic Pickletini is a vodka martini made dirty with dill pickle brine instead of olive brine. Vodka, a half ounce of brine and a splash of dry vermouth are stirred ice-cold and served up with a pickle spear. It tastes clean, crisp and gently salty, with a fresh dill finish.

How to make it

  1. Chill a martini glass in the freezer or with ice water.
  2. Add the vodka, pickle brine and dry vermouth to a mixing glass.
  3. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for about 30 seconds.
  4. Strain into the chilled glass.
  5. Garnish with a pickle spear.

Bar tips

  • Strain the brine through a fine sieve so seeds and spice bits stay out of the glass.
  • Brines vary a lot in salt, so taste yours first and start at ¼ oz if it is very salty.
  • Keep the vodka in the freezer for a colder, silkier drink with less dilution.

Make it your own

  • Use gin instead of vodka for a more botanical Pickletini.
  • Skip the vermouth entirely for a bone-dry version.

Drink responsibly. This one is for adults of legal drinking age. Want it without the booze? The zero-proof drinks are just as briny.
