Maple Pickle Bourbon

Maple, bourbon and brine: the sweet-salty one.

Maple Pickle Bourbon is bourbon shaken with pure maple syrup, dill pickle brine and a little lemon, then poured over ice. It tastes sweet and salty, like a maple glaze, with a soft tang instead of the sharp pucker of a sour. Dark, robust maple syrup gives it the most flavor.

pickle chip and lemon twist

How to make it

  1. Add the bourbon, maple syrup, brine and lemon juice to a shaker.
  2. Fill with ice and shake for about 10 seconds.
  3. Strain over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.
  4. Crack a little black pepper on top, if you like.
  5. Garnish with a pickle chip and a lemon twist.

Bar tips

  • Real maple syrup only; pancake syrup tastes thin and fake against the brine.
  • Keep the shake short so the drink stays rich, not watery.
  • A high-rye bourbon adds spice that cuts through the sweetness.

Make it your own

  • Skip the lemon and stir instead of shaking for a richer, spirit-forward sipper.
  • Add a dash of Angostura bitters for extra warmth.

Drink responsibly. This one is for adults of legal drinking age. Want it without the booze? The zero-proof drinks are just as briny.
