No. 49Whiskey, Bourbon & Shots
Pickle Whiskey Ginger
Ginger fizz, whiskey warmth, briny backbone.
The Pickle Whiskey Ginger is a tall highball of whiskey, ginger ale and three-quarters of an ounce of dill brine over ice, finished with a squeeze of lime. Sweet ginger and salty brine balance each other, so it drinks light, fizzy and savory. It builds right in the glass in two minutes, no shaker needed.

Units
Amounts for 1, in ounces.
- 2 oz whiskey (Irish or Canadian works best)
- ¾ oz dill pickle brine
- 4 oz ginger ale (chilled)
- 1 lime wedge
- 1 dill pickle spear (for garnish)
- Glass
- highball glass
- Garnish
- pickle spear and lime wedge
How to make it
- Fill a highball glass with ice.
- Add the whiskey and brine.
- Top with ginger ale.
- Squeeze in the lime wedge and stir once, gently.
- Garnish with a pickle spear.
Bar tips
- Pour the ginger ale down the side of the glass to keep the bubbles.
- Pick a drier, spicier ginger ale; very sweet ones bury the brine.
- Chill the whiskey and brine first so the ice melts slower.
Make it your own
- Use ginger beer for a sharper, spicier highball.
- Use bourbon for a rounder, vanilla-sweet version.
Drink responsibly. This one is for adults of legal drinking age. Want it without the booze? The zero-proof drinks are just as briny.
