No. 55Whiskey, Bourbon & Shots

Pickle Bomb

Beer tastes better briny. Especially with a shot in it.

The Pickle Bomb is a shot glass of whiskey and dill pickle brine lowered into a half-full pint of cold light lager. The whiskey and brine swirl into the beer, turning it salty, malty and a little sharp, like a pickleback and its beer back in one glass. Sip it at your own pace.

How to make it

  1. Pour the lager into a sturdy pint glass until it is about half full.
  2. Pour the whiskey and brine into a shot glass.
  3. Gently lower the shot glass into the beer, or simply pour the shot in.
  4. Garnish with a pickle spear.
  5. Sip and enjoy at your own pace.

Bar tips

  • Use a thick-bottomed pint glass and lower the shot in instead of dropping it from a height, so nothing chips or cracks.
  • Crisp, light lagers work best here; a malty or very hoppy beer muddies the whiskey and brine.
  • Keep the whiskey and brine cold so the beer stays cold too.

Make it your own

  • Use bourbon for a sweeter, rounder bomb.
  • Use a Mexican lager and spicy brine for a michelada-style bomb.

Drink responsibly. This one is for adults of legal drinking age. Want it without the booze? The zero-proof drinks are just as briny.
